Folktales (The Girl in the Tower) - Far From a Fairy Tale - Prodigal Son
Title: Far From a Fairy Tale
Fandom: Prodigal Son
Pairing: Dani Powell/Edrisa Tanaka
Rating: Teen
Prompt: Folktales Prompt Table - The Girl in the Tower
Word Count: 391
Summary: Seeing Edrisa's car in the lot, Dani knew something was wrong.
A/N: This is a missing scene from Season 2, Episode 3 "Alma Mater". Spoilers ahead.
The medical examiner's vehicle was still on the lot when Dani got to the police car. She radio'ed Gil. “Hey, didn't the M.E. wrap up before we did?”
“Yeah.”
“Edrisa's car is still here. I've got a funny feeling about this.”
“Wait for us.”
“I'll be fine,” said Dani, checking her gun and letting go of the radio before heading into the building. She'd swing by the murder scene first- Edrisa had enjoyed her time in the pool quite a bit.
Nothing there. The feeling of that something was wrong intensified. This place was just so... out of her experience. People like Bright got it- they knew the culture, how to navigate the world of people with money. Drop her in an inner-city high school and she'd be fine. These places with their high walls and castle-like appearances were more suited to fairy tales than real life.
And right now, there was a tiny medical examiner trapped in a tower somewhere.
As she turned a corner, she heard voices. Students, disappearing around the next bend. Wolves roaming in a pack, she thought to herself. She trailed down the hall after them, stopping only when she heard a noise coming from a room to her left. She pushed open the door with a sign marked “Physics Club” and looked inside.
Edrisa sat on the floor looking dazed. She was bleeding from a cut on her lip and her glasses were askew.
Dani crouched down beside her, giving her the once-over.
“I just wanted to see...” began Edrisa.
“Shh. It's okay. You're safe. I got you. Can you stand?”
“Yes.”
Dani helped her to her feet. Edrisa clung to her for a moment before letting go. “Are you okay with driving back to the station?”
Edrisa nodded. “Just a flesh wound,” she said, affecting a British accent, then winced as she smiled.
“You may want to not be so...”
“So what?” Edrisa looked so serious that Dani wanted to apologize.
“Never mind. You forgot your water.”
“Oh, that? I got it from the refrigerator right there. I can put it back.”
“No!”
“Did you want some?” Edrisa tilted the bottle toward her.
“I will take this,” Dani said, smiling as she took the bottle from her. “This is evidence.”
