prompt table themes suggestion post

So, the Folktale Tropes prompt table challenge is now over which means it's time for a new challenge!

And a new challenge means a new set of prompts, and so this is the theme suggestion/ideas post. Comment with anything you think would make a good overall theme for a table of prompts, and be as creative and/or out there as you'd like! If you'd like some examples, you can check out the last suggestion post here.

This post will be open for one week, and then we'll have a poll to decide the new prompt table.

Those are all great, thank you! Pride anthems is an awesome idea, and I'd really love for us to have a table of visual prompts sometime because I know this place is so word-prompt focused.

-Elements of nature/space
-Games (either intended for children only, adults only or any age)
-Gemstones (can be used literally or symbolically depending on gemstone meanings, cultural context, etc.)
-Animals (same as gemstones)
-Poisons (some poisons have medicinal properties, depending on the dose and formulation, it's a fascinating duality.)

Ooh, poisons would very cool! These are all good, lots of scope there. I think gemstones has come pretty close to winning a few times and it really would make a great table!

I’ve noticed that a lot of the franchises people write for in this community are about characters who develop fictional abilities or are born with them and become figures who use their powers to save their world, whether it be by becoming magical girls, superheroes, or war champions.

How about a Hero Prompt dealing with different types of heroes with different types of magical abilities and scenarios, like a superhero with telekinesis who falls in love with someone whose mind they can’t read or a magical girl with ice powers that joins the dark side?

Another suggestion would be a Sports Prompt, like one story you have to write about how character B is on the basketball team and character A agreeing with to date character B if they make the final score in their upcoming basketball game and another story being where two characters start off as rivals in ice skating or gymnastics or cheerleading and end up as a couple? Sorry if my ideas are too complex lol.

No, no these are great ideas! The examples you give might be a little bit too specific for our usual type of prompts, but something very similar but maybe a bit more general would work really well, I think. Like kind of Hero/Superhero/Magical Being tropes? So to riff off what you said, something like "the one person who a superhero's powers don't work on" or "a magical being joins the dark side"?

And you could do Sports Tropes in the same way, with "winning a game to win someone over" or "rivals end up as a couple", maybe.

I like all of these! Lyrics are always such a great source of prompts, and they both have a wealth of choices. And weather would be something a bit different, but it would work really well.
