Challenge 348 - Art - The Big Bang Theory - Amy/Penny
Title: Something You're Drawn To
Fandom: The Big Bang Theory
Characters: Amy Farrah Fowler/Penny
Rating: Teen
Prompt: 348 - Art
Word Count: 424
Summary: Amy has purchased art for their apartment. Penny is skeptical.
A/N: Can I get a fandom tag for The Big Bang Theory please?
“I picked up some art for our apartment,” said Amy.
“Picked up or commissioned?” asked Penny. Thinking of the giant painting of the two of them had the blonde a little leery.
“Picked up. It's a sculpture.”
Oh dear god, the nightmare will be three-dimensional, thought Penny. “A sculpture of what?” she cautiously asked.
“It's abstract. So, it's whatever you think it is. They'll be delivering it tomorrow afternoon. Don't open it without me.”
“Oh, I won't,” said Penny, bound and determined to take a peek and then decide if the sculpture was “damaged in transit”.
The delivery man was there at the apartment at three o'clock on the dot. Penny signed for the medium-sized package and then set it on the living room table. She went into the kitchen to get a knife.
The phone rang. It was Amy. “Hi hon,” said Penny.
“It's there, isn't it? I was tracking the package and it said it was delivered.”
“If you knew it was delivered, then why did you call?”
“I'm just so excited. I want to come home now. Don't open it yet.”
“The box was already opened when it got here. Do you want me to check and make sure that it's not damaged?”
“Yeah, you better go ahead. If it's broken, let me know.”
Penny ran the knife over the top of the box.
“What was that?” asked Amy.
I swear she has ears like a cat thought Penny. “Nothing. Just taking it out of the box.”
“Be careful with it!” Amy yelled through the phone, which nearly startled Penny into dropping the knife on her foot.
Penny set the phone on the table and proceeded to take the sculpture from the box. It was wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap. She couldn't resist popping a bubble or five as she unpacked it.
“Stop messing around. Is it okay?”
Penny unwrapped the bubble wrap and pulled out the sculpture. It was made of red clay. “I don't know why you say that it's abstract, it looks just like the statue version of those flower paintings in our bedroom.”
“So you like it?”
“Yeah, it's very nice.”
“I thought you would. See you when I get home.”
Penny picked up the sculpture, stroked a finger over it, feeling the texture of the design and enjoying being able to touch the work of art. She hadn't lied to Amy. She really did like it even if she couldn't say why. It was just one of those pieces that she was drawn to.
