-----

It was five in the morning of the fifteenth of February, which meant Valentine's day was definitely gone and she didn't have to worry about it any longer. It also meant that her night rounds too were thankfully over, both good reasons for her to finally enjoy a well deserved rest.

After sending off the other Hyakka and wishing them a good morning, Tsukuyo calmly walked back to her place, relishing the sense of relief at the thought of having completely dodged this whole chocolate gifting affair and, most important, not having to worry about it for another year. She still remembered when she had had to help Kagura and carry out a favor for Hinowa, and the accumulated embarrassment from back then was more than enough to last her years. A reason more for her to be glad to have been able to dodge the thing entirely this time.

Which was why, when she stepped into her bedroom and saw Sarutobi sitting on the floor, covered in weird black stuff from head to toes, for a moment those embarrassing memories had all of a sudden become borderline traumatic flashbacks to her.

"...finally..." Ayame mumbled, looking up at her.

"W-What the heck happened to you-"

"Here." Ayame interrupted her, extending her arm towards Tsukuyo to show her a soggy box of chocolates. "It's obligation chocolate, don't get weird ideas."

"Sarutobi, please tell me you didn't do this on purpose-"

"Look, the idea of giving you, my rival, this chocolate was embarrassing and I had to deal with it somehow, okay?"

Tsukuyo stood speechless for a few seconds before finally finding the mental energy to reply. "And you actually covered yourself in chocolate to get over the embarrassment?"

"What else was I supposed to do?"

"I can think of at least a dozen different, less ridiculous things... At least tell me you didn't go all the way through and you're not actually naked-"

"Are you going to get this chocolate or not? I've been here like this for hours!" She brusquely interrupted the other.

Tsukuyo let out a sigh. "I'll take it as a yes, then." She then walked towards Ayame and took the box from her hand. "Obligation chocolate, huh?"

"To thank you for everything. You know, hanging out with me, accepting my invitation at the ninja training course... that kind of stuff..."

"You know that the day for gifting chocolate to women is next month, right?" Tsukuyo casually asked, carefully opening the box using only two fingers to avoid dirtying herself with chocolate, and looking at its content.

"White Day is for returning the presents one receives on Valentine's day, actually. How are you supposed to be a functioning member of this society if you don't know-"

"Really? Does that mean that next month I should come at your home naked and covered in white chocolate?"

Ayame shrugged. "Do whatever you want. It's not even Valentine's day anymore, so who cares." She mumbled, huddling her legs against her chest and hugging her knees.

"Apparently you did, enough to wait for hours and do... this just to deliver a box of cheap obligation chocolate. To your rival, nonetheless."

Ayame didn't reply, just looked away and let out a sigh.

"Most of these have melted, and some of the wrappings are literally floating in the chocolate. I don't think that putting this in the fridge would fix it." Tsukuyo replied, throwing the box on the floor while sitting far enough to avoid getting into the pool of dripping chocolate that had formed beneath Ayame, but still close enough to her.

"Whatever..." Ayame mumbled, her head still turned away.

"Anyway, I hope you don't mind..." Tsukuyo then reached out and, holding back her sleeve with her other hand, scooped some chocolate from Ayame's cheek.

Baffled, Ayame turned her head towards Tsukuyo to see her suck on her finger.

"Milk chocolate, I like it." She then nonchalantly commented.

"Don't say it like you just did the most normal thing in the world!"

"Look who's talking." Tsukuyo replied, scooping some more chocolate from her other cheek. "You broke into my place and made a mess all over the floor, at least allow me to enjoy the silver lining of this."

"...w-wait, what... aren't you thinking of-"

"I'm too tired for whatever you might be thinking about, good or bad." She answered before sucking on her finger again. "I'll think about what to do with you more in detail tomorrow, but as you can imagine your punishment will definitely involve a lot cleaning up. And, if you botch that in some way, I might let the details of this little accident slip while I'm talking with people. How would that be for an embarrassing experience, eh Sarutobi?" Tsukuyo asked, slowly turning her head towards the other to reveal a sly grin on her face.

Ayame was about to reply something, but before she could Tsukuyo's expression had turned into a nice smile. "But thank you for the thought, I appreciate it. Unlike everything else you did in order to deliver it, that is." She said as she scooped some more chocolate.

"T-That's because it's just obligation chocolate, I didn't really care about-" Before she could finish her sentence, Tsukuyo had silenced her by gently pushing her chocolate coated finger inside Ayame's mouth.
